
HOUSTON / BEAUMONT, July 29, 2014 – Challenger Drilling, Inc. announces that James Mike Riley, President, has retired. Riley joined Challenger Drilling, Inc. in 2002 when he joined partnership with Jeff H. Lutz and Danny P. Tweedel. He has been the company\’s President since that time, as well as the chairman of its board of directors. Riley brought over thirty years of construction and oil and gas related experience to Challenger Drilling. His knowledge, expertise and integrity have helped guide Challenger in becoming among the top companies in their industry today.
Jeff H. Lutz, co-owner and formerly Vice President, assumed the role of President and chief executive officer, with co-owner Danny P. Tweedel as Vice President and chief operations officer. Lutz stated, \”It is with great appreciation and admiration that we embark on this new territory as Mike enters into retirement. For the past twelve years Mike has provided invaluable leadership for Challenger Drilling. His consistent and resolute focus on hard work and strong integrity has helped distinguish our company. It is with much appreciation; gratitude and respect that we wish Mike the very best in his retirement”.
Danny Tweedel stated that “Mike has been an integral part of our company. His contributions will always be valued and remembered and will be greatly missed in the day-to-day operations. His hard work, commitment and dedication are admirable. Although his shoes will be hard to fill, Jeff and I are very prepared to lead this company into its future”.
Lutz founded Challenger Drilling, Inc. in July 1998 with over 30 years’ experience across the entire value chain of the drilling industry including field knowledge to executive level management. Tweedel offers nearly twenty years of directional drilling experience, field expertise and skilled management. This makes the owners of Challenger uniquely qualified. In a statement given by Jeff Lutz as to the future of the company, he said, “Challenger shall continue to provide quality Horizontal Directional Drilling services all while upholding the company\’s core values that it inherited from its original three partners.”
A company dinner celebration is planned for August 23, 2014 to celebrate Mike’s retirement. Everyone at Challenger Drilling, Inc. as well as Mike’s family and friends will be in attendance to wish Mike and his wife Elizabeth Janie Riley a wonderful retirement.
